The Testament

Many of us “of a certain age” were, at some point in our early life given a pocket New Testament. Often it was given by a Sunday school teacher or a well meaning relative. I remember the one I was given was light blue and on the first page was a pictorial depiction of JesusContinue reading “The Testament”

Mr George

The first time I ever smelled a bottle of sour mash whiskey opened, I thought to myself “that smells like Mr George”. It didn’t occur to me in the moment that Mr George always smelled like whiskey. But, he did. If you saw him at seven am or eleven pm it was the same. HeContinue reading “Mr George”

The Role

The Reverend Hatfield was an interesting character that I wrote about previously. As a student of human nature the Reverend was always a bit of a quandary to me.  He always seemed like someone from the 1940’s that had been transported to us through time travel. He wore somber dark suits with white button downContinue reading “The Role”

The Path

I must have been about thirteen. It was a late fall morning and the day was cool and crisp. I decided to grab my 22 rifle and go for a walk in the woods to see if I would run across any squirrels that might be out and about. I had a very old greatContinue reading “The Path”

Can We Agree?

In the days of Yeshua’s ministry there were many who paid only lip-service to His teaching, (as there are today) just to raise their standing in the eyes of the people. While claiming to be his most loyal followers (as they do today), they did the opposite of what Yeshua taught; they judged and condemned,Continue reading “Can We Agree?”

Bless Your Heart

When I was a boy Growing up in the rural south years ago, It was quite common to hear people use the phrase “bless your heart”.  I remember my grandmothers and older aunts using it. Ocassionally Someone (usually an older female) would say something like “that child is ugly enough to stop an eight dayContinue reading “Bless Your Heart”

Two Gospels

Matt 24:14 And this gospel of the kingdom shall be preached in all the world for a witness unto all nations; and then shall the end come. Have you ever wondered why it is taking so long for the Messiah to return and the kingdom of YHVH to be established in the earth? The earlyContinue reading “Two Gospels”

Prayer

When I was a young boy my mother and grandmother attended a very small country church. It was a cobbled together affair of white painted clapboard siding and not much else. There was no carpet on the floor, just pine boards painted with gray porch paint. There was no air-conditioning just cardboard hand fans whichContinue reading “Prayer”

Trust

One day my mother packed me into the car and headed across town. There was nothing unusual about this in itself as we were  commonly making a trip to the grocery store or to my dad’s service station for some cause or another. Only, this time she drove to a small brick low standing buildingContinue reading “Trust”

Reverend Hatfield

Reverend Hatfield was a large man. I came to know him when he started buying from my dad’s store.. He wasn’t one of the most scholarly ministers I have met. But, what he lacked in knowledge he made up for in volume. Reverend Hatfield was a likable fellow except when he was in the pulpit.Continue reading “Reverend Hatfield”
